Our Kendal blueberry patch is open for business. There are plenty of berries, and only a few days left to pick them.
I learned from the latest construction update that access to the blueberry patch will be shut down on Monday, 7/14. You don’t want to miss these berries—they are delicious!
For those of you who are not familiar with the blueberry patch, you will find it inside the healthcare expansion construction fence, across the road from cottage #273.

There is an access corridor through the fence, but that is scheduled to be closed off on Monday.

The berries are abundant. My wife Jan and our visiting daughter, Becky, picked a lot on Thursday, but they barely tapped into the crop of ripe ones. And there is an equal quantity of not-yet-ripe berries.

Enjoy them while you can!

Dear George,
I feel fortunate to still receive your Kendal Journey musings, even though I am gone from Kendal…..One thing that has been on my mind recently has been the information that plastic recycling is largely a myth, that we have been lied to by the plastics & petroleum companies, that the vast majority of plastics, whether put in a recycling bin or not, wind up in a landfill or in the ocean, and later quite possibly in animal bodies, including our own. I wonder if you have any information to share with your readers about this disturbing news…..My best to you and Jan! Marty C.

Great to hear from you, Marty. The plastic problem is serious, and you are right: most “recycling” efforts are a failure. One important effort here is reusable containers for take-out food. We have expanded from the 3-compartment green meal containers that you will remember from your time here, and we now have smaller sandwich-size and pizza-slice-size ones that can likewise be returned for washing and reuse. It’s a small step forward.
